Wuthering Heights (1991) was suggested by our member John Forde, who says, 'To celebrate (or lament) the release of Emerald Fennell’s new film of Wuthering Heights, I’d like to propose a screening of one of the earlier (and, in my humble opinion, better) film adaptations – William Wyler’s handsome 1939 film starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon, or Andrea Arnold’s wonderful and criminally under praised 2011 version with James Howson as cinema’s first Black Heathcliff and Kaya Scodelario.'
A poor boy of unknown origins is rescued from poverty and taken in by the Earnshaw family where he develops an intense relationship with his young foster sister, Cathy.
Please note, the screening on Wednesday 3 June is our free members' screening whilst Tuesday 9 June is a regular screening, which is open to the general public.
