White Noise (HOH) 15

Noach Baumbach, UK/ USA, 2022, 136m.

Open captioned screening for the hard of hearing.

A pseudo-academic (Adam Driver) and his restless wife (Greta Gerwig) struggle to lead their extended family through the turmoil of everyday life in suburban 1980s America. A natural disaster makes them aware of their mortality and threatens their marriage.

White Noise is a 2022 post-apocalyptic satire written and directed by Noah Baumbach. It is adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name by Don DeLillo.

The Garden Cinema view:

White Noise successfully satirizes western consumerism and pseudo-intellectualism, which numb our fear of death. Adam Driver delivers a typically great performance, and the dialogue between the dysfunctional family members is relentlessly funny. We found the third act to be too long and wordy, but overall it does justice to DeLillo's postmodern classic!
