The Night of the Hunter 12A

Charles Laughton, USA, 1955, 92m.

Our free members' screening of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER takes place on 7/6/22. Regular pricing applies to all other shows.

Proposed by Rocky Palladino for the following reasons.

"THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER was the great actor Charles Laughton’s only film as director. He leaned heavily on his director of photography Stanley Cortez, who took the visual style of German expressionism and reshaped it for the film. It looks and feels unlike any other of its era.

It features a performance by Robert Mitchum that is as powerful as it is disturbing. His speech about the battle between love and hate (which would inspire a memorable scene in DO THE RIGHT THING) has become legendary.

It’s a film that must be seen on the big screen!"
