Psycho 15

Part of Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock, USA, 1960, 108m.

Often said to be Hitchcock’s best film, and certainly one of his most original, Psycho is a psychological thriller (also rather tenuously described as a horror film). It’s often listed as one of the best films of all time.

Janet Leigh steals $40,000 from her employer and goes on the run. She checks into a remote motel in Arizona run by Anthony Perkins (playing a shy young man under the domination of his mother). Leigh’s sudden disappearance is investigated by her boyfriend and sister who discover she was murdered.

The film was financed by Hitchcock himself because his studio, Paramount, wouldn’t make it. They felt the story was ‘too repulsive’.
