Madeline U

Part of Films for the Family
Daisy Von Scherler Mayer, France, USA, 1998, 88m.

The great books about the little orphan girl who lives in boarding school in Paris come to life in this terrific film, which found real actors and locations to match the original illustrations. Tiny, but clever and quick-witted, Madeline (Hatty Jones) schemes to save her boarding school and home from being closed and sold by its owner, the severe Lord Covington (Nigel Hawthorne). Madeline's sweet antics are often a burden to her goodhearted but stern headmistress, Miss Clavel (Frances McDormand), whose true appreciation of Madeline is revealed when Madeline and a schoolboy named Pepito (Kristian de la Osa) are kidnapped.

On Saturdays our family screenings are followed by a free activity for children.
