Grey Gardens PG

David Maysles, Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde, Muffie Meyer, USA, 1975, 95m.

This film was proposed by our member Elli, who writes:

'I have never seen this documentary about the reclusive relatives of Jackie O. living in a crumbling New York mansion, but have long wanted to. It is not very readily available on streaming services and the internet informs me that Sight & Sound voted it the tenth-best documentary film of all time – so please make this happen, Garden Cinema team!'

Meet a mother and daughter, high-society dropouts, reclusive cousins of Jackie O., managing to thrive together amid the decay and disorder of their East Hampton, NY, mansion, making for an eerily ramshackle echo of the American Camelot.

Please note, the screening on Wednesday 16 August is our Free Members' Screening. The screening the following week, on Wednesday 23 August is a regular screening.
