Being There was suggested by our member Michael Shea, who says, 'I love this film, but have never had a chance to see it on the big screen. It’s about someone so simple-minded that they’re mistaken for a genius, leading to a series of bizzare events. Probably Hal Ashby’s best film and Peter Sellers’ best performance..'
Suddenly evicted from his life-long residence, Peter Sellers’ sheltered, TV-addicted simpleton Chauncey Gardiner emerges reluctantly into the world and finds himself misinterpreted and celebrated as a sage-like pundit by President Jack Warden, dying industrialist Melvyn Douglas, and his turned-on wife Shirley MacLaine. Sellers’ Oscar-nominated performance was the most acclaimed of his career.
Please note, the screening on Wednesday 17 June is our free members' screening whilst Tuesday 23 June is a regular screening, which is open to the general public.
