All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (HOH) 15

Part of A Taste of Queer Cinema
Laura Poitras, USA, 2022, 117m.

Open captioned screening for the hard of hearing.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is an epic, emotional and interconnected story about internationally renowned artist and activist Nan Goldin told through her slideshows, intimate interviews, ground-breaking photography, and rare footage of her personal fight to hold the Sackler family accountable for the overdose crisis.

Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival 2022.

The Garden Cinema View: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is a tremendous achievement in documentary filmmaking and a fitting tribute to an iconic artist and activist. The dual narrative intertwines Nan Goldin's biography and artistic emergence with her recent campaigns with PAIN. As these paths converge, the trauma of Goldin's past becomes processed into her determination to bring the Sackler family to justice. A truly angry yet empowering portrait, full of profound understanding.
