The Cycle of Love 12A

Orlando von Einsiedel, UK, USA, 2025, 98m.

In 1977, PK, a young street artist from Delhi, picked up a handful of paintbrushes and a second-hand bicycle and set off on a 6000-mile journey to find the woman who had captured his heart.

Growing up poor and ‘untouchable’, young PK had to reckon with the caste system and with his own sense of self-worth, as he met fellow travellers and locals from all walks of life on his journey across the world. Oscar-nominated director Orlando von Einsiedel retraces PK’s journey from India to Sweden in an extraordinarily uplifting film, that is not just about what can happen when you follow your heart, but is also a paean to the joy of chance encounters and the kindness of strangers.

The Garden Cinema View:

Orlando von Einsiedel blends interviews, impressive reenactments, and some fascinating 1970s archive footage to tell this real life odyssey. PK Mahanandia is a compelling and charismatic subject, spinning out his fairy tale like journey with great affection and wit. His is a story to make you believe in the power of prophecy, and the pursuit of love. His very slow road trip has a sense of David Lynch’s The Straight Story, with the people he meets and helps, and help him, all assisting him in forging his own destiny. The Cycle of Love is profoundly heartwarming, and a moving humanist tribute to the world and to human connection.
