Something Different was suggested by our member Ed Gutterigde, who writes: 'This is the debut feature of Věra Chytilová, who made Daisies, one of the greatest films of all time. Would love to see her first film, which sounds fab.'
In her first feature, Chytilová tells the parallel stories of a woman gymnast, Eva Bosáková (filmed as a documentary), and an ordinary housewife (filmed as fiction). The two strands never meet but provide a progressive comment on each other and the differing roles of the women. An absorbing and important work of women's cinema, it also features striking camerawork from Jan Čuřík. - BFI
Please note, the screening on Tuesday 28 July is our free members' screening, whilst Wednesday 5 August is a regular screening, which is open to the general public.
