Lee Chang-dong, South Korea, Japan, 2018, 148m.

Burning was suggested by our member Edmund Barns, who writes: 'I think this Korean psychological thriller is one of the best films of the last decade. When I saw it a few years ago it spoke profoundly to the malaise of my own generation; the rootless unease, disaffection and widening social inequity.'

Burning (2018) is a South Korean psychological thriller about an aspiring writer named Jong-su who becomes consumed with obsession and paranoia after his childhood friend, Hae-mi, vanishes following a trip. Her disappearance centers around her wealthy, enigmatic new boyfriend, Ben, who harbors a dark, destructive hobby.
