Chungking Express 12

Part of Hong Kong Golden Age 1985-1997
Wong Kar-wai, Hong Kong, 1994, 111m.

More than three decades after its release, Chungking Express remains one of Wong Kar-wai’s most beloved and influential works, representing perhaps the fullest expression of his celebrated use of popular music. Starring some of the most iconic actors of 1990s Hong Kong cinema, it offers a vibrant portrait of alienated young adults navigating love, chance encounters, and fleeting connections in contemporary Hong Kong, often seen alongside Fallen Angels (1995) as the bright and dark twin of the city’s cinematic depiction.

Two melancholic Hong Kong policemen fall in love: one with a mysterious female underworld figure, the other with a beautiful and ethereal waitress at a late-night restaurant he frequents.

Supported by the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office London.

Cast:
Faye Wong, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung, Brigitte Lin
