Past Season:

LGBT+ History Month 2026

Thu 05 Feb — Sat 28 Feb 2026

Keeping with tradition, throughout February The Garden Cinema is celebrating LGBT+ History Month! Join us for a compelling selection picked by our members, alongside exciting partnership events!

We open with British coming-out 90s drama Beautiful Thing (1996), followed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s exquisite dark comedy, Fox and His Friends (1975). The latter will be introduced by our (cinema & staff) member Jaison Washington on Sunday 8 February. We will also be bringing back the groundbreaking independent lesbian love story, Desert Hearts (1985), which was the most upvoted film by our members, and there will another queer-centric film (yet to be announced) for February’s free members’ screening. We’ll bring the month to a close with a very special members’ event, featuring an unexpected turn by Katherine Hepburn – stay tuned for more on this!

We are also excited to partner with various cultural institutions who will be bringing along some guests to the cinema for Q&As. Instituto Cervantes and The Spanish Researchers Association in the UK will present a screening of Diosa (Goddess), which centres on Catalan queer icon Joan/Marina, who uses their art to explore their femininity and question masculinity, while Radical Performers Re-Imagine Athens will present Avant-Drag!, an exhilarating look at ten Athenian drag performers who deconstruct gender, nationalism, belonging, and identity, while facing police brutality, transphobia, and racism. Queer East presents two Korean documentaries: Edhi Alice: Reverse, a moving portrait of two trans women and Miracle on Jongno Street which follows five gay men as they navigate life in the vibrant district of Jongno, Seoul.
